I know what a hard time this is, but you’re in exactly the right place to get the best support for you, and good feedback about the best way you can support Adore. Can’t wait to hear more about Adore!
Sending hugs–hang in there, it gets better <3
Thank you so much! I’m trying not to be scared for her. She had the surgery We’d afternooon and she’s not wanting to move around a lot yet. She’s is truly my very best friend and I feel like she’s already changed. Will she get back to normal?
She has been through a lot, amputation is a serious surgery! Give her some time to heal, and make sure you’re keeping ahead of any pain she may have. It took my Fallon maybe a week to feel more like herself–we started seeing little bits of her personality shining through then. Even then, it is a transition, but you’ll see the Adore you know and love again, even better and stronger on 3 legs! There’s adjustment time and learning, but Fallon was hopping around on 3 legs like that was all she ever knew, in no time!
Can you post pictures? Would LOVE to see her!!
Yes, she will get back to normal, but without the painful leg!
Hu,and would still be in the hospital on a morphine drip!!
Recovery is no picnic for about two weeks. She just had MAJOR surgery and is adjusting to three legs. while, hopefully, being druggy on good pain meds!
I know its hard to be patient, but this is sooooo early in recovery and she doesn’t feel like pawtying yet!
Right now she needs rest, rest, rest, short potty breaks and more rest!
Tell us more about your girl when you can. Reason for amp, her age, weight, pain meds she’s on, eating, drinking, etc.
Most dogs come home with Gabapentin, Tramadol, Rimadyl, antibiotic. If you have hardwood floors, be sure and put down non slip scatter rubs for traction.
I know you are exhausted and worried and scared. We can all relate to that!! It is important for her healing that you stay strong and confident with your energy. She will feed off of that.

Hi everyone! Thank you all for your sweet comments! Me and Adore feel the love. My daughter is going to try to set up a page for me this week on her computer with pictures of Adore. I don’t know how to do all of this stuff on my phone.
My sweet love is doing so good. She had the surgery last Wednesday and she is already walking all over my bedroom. And she goes out for potty breaks 3 times a day. She would stay out longer but we just want her to do her business and not overdue. I have a big room for just me and her and my 2 lil bitties. My other dog is a lab/sharpie mix and she has sensed a chance to nap the Alpha, so she has to be gated out into the other room unless me and hubby are both in here watching her closely. I have her 2 jumbo beds set in opposite sides of the room in front of both of my chairs so she can always be by me. I have rugs in front of everything. And then at night I put a real big soft cushy quilt by the side of my bed and that’s where she sleeps. I usually rub her and sing to her until she falls asleep at night because she’s a bit antsy. She loves to watch TV and fusses terribly if we turn it off. She loves Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER and will watch it for hours. It amazes everyone. She is a big Rotti with a big personality. She chuffs at you like a lion when she wants something. I have 2 different cones for her. A daytime and nighttime one. But when I’m sitting right by her I don’t make her wear one at all. I could talk about her all night. I will put more info whenever I can get my daughter to make me a pretty homepage. She’s a second grade teacher and helps run a Foster Rescue Group. That’s how I ended up with my sweet Ava Adore. I foster failed!! ❤️❤️🐾🐾 And I’m proud of it. Someone asked about meds. She is on Tramadol, Galliprant, Gabapentin and Amantadine and her antibiotic. She’s never acted like she’s in pain, EXCEPT!!
When I put her cone back on her at bedtime. Then she whines like a baby. Hence why she gets petted, rubbed and sang to until she falls asleep. I pray night and day for all of my dogs and for all of the animals in the world. And I seriously have such bad OCD because of my worrying about them. I still am very saddened because she had to loose her beautiful leg and we still have chemo ahead of us, but I know me and her can get through this together. And now I have all of you my new frens!! Thank you❤️
